Sea Pines Plantation on the south end of the island was the first of the modern Hilton Head communities and served as the role model for subsequent communities that followed. It is the largest of all the Hilton Head Island communities, boasting two marinas, approximately four miles of pristine beaches, the Sea Pines Racquet Club— which is home to some of the best tennis training programs in the United States—and Harbour Town Golf Links, where you can actually play on the same demanding course used by the pros during the PGA tour.
For people who are history buffs, there are two Hilton Head communities waiting to be discovered. When Spanish explorers first landed on Hilton Head Island, they were exploring the future home of the Spanish Wells community. Although it is a private community, it is a perfect place for those who want to escape from their busy days and get far away from it all. The Port Royal Community is the site of the original landing of William Hilton. It's no surprise that this is the explorer after which the island is named. Port Royal includes both a private residential area, as well as, a public resort area for guests.
Hilton Head Plantation offers a wide variety of amenities -- beaches, bike trails, four different golf courses, boating, tennis courts, and two different nature conservancy centers. If you like sailing or motor boating, Windmill Harbour is the ideal destination because it offers direct access to the famous Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway.
